Based on your question, I just want to warn you that a bunch of people are going to suggest to you that you check out a company called Squaremouth. Please be advised this company is notorious for posting their spam here. It has been a big topic of discussion among a travel forum that I subscribe to. Many of my fellow travelers have been directed there, only to find they do NOT have the best deals. I think they must pay people to lurk in yahoo answers and get themselves some free advertisement. If you want to email me privately I will point you in the direction of some honest folks who have been in the biz for 30+ years and can get you a good deal and lots of options. Also, avoid insurance offered through travel agents and the post office. Here’s wishing you a safe journey!!!

I would call an insurance broker – they have a range of policies that are half decent. Internet policies (aggregator especially) tend to exlcude pre-existing medical conditions, terrorism cover and have high excesses (to get the price down) whereas a broker will offer you a better policy.

One of the best cover wise is the BIBA travel insurance scheme – £40 excess per person per incident (not per section) with a £80 excess maximum per family. The annual policy is 45 days a trip.

With regards to activities, quite a range is covered but a broker will ask you about higher risk activities and recommend a policy that covers them.
