Ah sorry, Umm, it’s possibly somewhere in the handbook, if not I would phone your insurer and tell them it already has an alarm, see what they recommend

    Pay them nothing.
Take it to a main dealer, they should be able to print out the complete spec. of your car from the VIN.

The VIN is the first thing to be allocated to a car, and the specification is already predetermined when that happens.

What insurance company is this, any decent one would know the standard spec. for any model or car, how else would they be able to challenge any claim made, if they didn’t know the difference between standard and modified?

    Hope that helps.

I personally have never heard of an insurer asking for proof of this….I would be phoning them back and asking how long this has been policy, and also asking trading standards if this is normal practise..
Until I was satisfied I would not supply the insurer with the information…

this question is commonly asked when the car is an import or it has been modified in some way, or there is history of it having been stolen in the past, maybe when it was previously owned. many insurance companies now ask this as standard, as many people fit aftermarket alarm systems to enhance the factory fitted ones. a garage should not charge you more than 5-10 quid for said cert.

Get a quote from another insurer – The likelihood is that this is standard fitment across the model range, but because it sometimes doesn’t state this on the computer of the spotty little oik giving you the quote, they ask for stupid proof such as this. Not all insurance companies will require this information – I guarantee it!!

First of all find aVAT registered garage

then no more than half an hours labour rate
that would cover testing the alarm+ writing out the letter to your insurance company

If your usual garage is VAT registered they may do this free for you

another way would be to find an alarm installer near to your location

    (Yellow Pages)

    Hope this helps

If it’s a factory fit, as against an after market fit, they DO NOT require a certificate. Argue with them, tell them to go to the manufacturer.
