Not if the damage happened before the start date of the insurance, if you tried to claim and they found out it would be deemed as fraud.
You could do this but take into consideration the fact that you’ve already been told that the damage to the TV is not covered by the warranty. When you make a claim on your insurance the insurers may contact the company you bought the TV from to confirm the date you bought it etc. and they may tell them that you already tried to claim on the warranty. I could be wrong about this but to be honest would you be prepared to take the risk?
Depends on what you excess is. It may be more than 700.
If you buy the insurance after you broke the TV then no you can’t do that. You could try, but if the insurers found out what you were doing you could get a criminal record out of it. For me personally I’d rather just save up for a new TV.
Would it not be cheaper to get it fixed than pay for the insurance + the extra for accidental damage + you would have to pay for the first 100 to 200 pound for the the TV repair anyway + the price of any future insurance would be more expensive because you have made a claim….
Plus on any insurance you are not covered for existing damage…
As others have said, you can’t claim for something that has happened before you take up a policy.
But you could take out the cover for the future.
Would fraud work? Because that’s what you are asking. The answer is yes sometimes it does work but why gamble with your freedom if there’s no need?
Get a £50 tv from a second hand shop if you are that hard up for cash, at least you are SURE you’ll stay a free man.
(yep they may lock you up for fraud in the UK)
If it has been damaged before you take out the policy – then no. I think that is probably a criminal act!
Standard homeowners doesn’t cover accidental damage.
Insurance only covers damage that occurs after you buy the insurance, not damage that happens before you buy the insurance.
It depends on what you excess is. It may be more than 700 though.
