I pay about £42 in total a month for my two Labs.
I didn’t have insurance with my previous Lab and I got a vet bill for £3500, she had cancer and was at the vets for 5 days, but in the end they could do nothing to save her, and the kindest thing to do was to let her go peacefully, rather than make her go on suffering.
I would have gladly paid double that amount if they could have saved her, but now I have pet insurance so if vet treatment is needed, then I don’t need to worry about the cost.

i pay about £11 a month and i wouldn’t be without it. although i haven’t had to claim yet (touch wood) i dread to think how much i would pay out to make him better. our dog is like a child to us and we wouldn’t hesitate to pay whatever it cost to make him right.

Hi Lorraine. I don’t have pet insurance. We are on benefits so decided not to get it. I get treatment from the RSPCA hospital, but even this costs a great deal (for me who has next to nothing anyway). When Becky had her op recently it cost a few hundred pounds so I dread to think how much it would have been privately. I think insurance probably would be cheaper because she is on heart bladder medication for life, but it would be too costly to get it now as she is old has problems. I would spend whatever it took to make her better if she was ill. I would beg borrow off whoever I could because she means the world to me. I have had morning sickness and am feeling really tired at the mo but hopefully that will all pass soon and I will be feeling right as rain. I’ve never had pet insurance – I used to have 7 dogs could never have afforded it!! I now save £20.00 a month in a dog account – haven’t had to use it yet.
But I do have a very healthy breed a down to earth vet!

I insure my two Dobmermanns with Pet Plan. I pay monthly, which is about £30.00 a month each.

If I didn’t have pet insurance, if it was in my dog’s best interest to have treatment, then whatever I had to sell, take out a loan ect, I would do it.

Beau, a fantastic Dobmermann, developed cancer in 2003. He was 3 3/4 at the time. He was referred to see a canine oncologist at the Animal Health Trust. The total cover over the next for years was in excess of £10,000. 99% of the extra time Beau was able to share with us, he had an excellent quality of life.

Would I have found a way to pay without insurance? Yes.

Was it worth it even though he died almost four years later?
100% yes!!!!!!!!!! I was grateful for every extra day that I had with him, my only regret is that there weren’t more of them.

I consider his treatment was a success and Pet Plan insurance paid for most of the treatment.

I pay less than $70 a month for two dogs (ASPCA pet health insurance). I have a $100 deductible for each dog yearly. One of my dogs goes to work with me and a dog in the store attacked her recently (That dog will not be returning to our store, by the way!). I took her to the vet and used my deductible and will still get some money back from my pet insurance. Thank God my precious dog will be fine and thank God I have insurance to cover medical expenses!

I would pay what it takes to keep my dog healthy and safe…..She is a working dog, my companion and will be raising a litter of puppies this summer…..

$65 a month, and its worth it. They cover everything.

you will never be money ahead with pet insurance. prove me wrong!

$65 a month PLUS a $100 deductible…and you think you are saving money? thats almost a thousand a year if you just get the yearly shots….how in the world can that be better than putting that money in a savings account that gains interest? my dogs get hurt often and i RARELY hit a thousand bucks a year.

It depends how old your pet is….I have two dogs over 10 and we pay nearly £1000 a year….it goes up dramatically as the dogs get older.
